Five ways to keep your children entertained while traveling! #KiaHoliday

For a lot of us the holidays means road trips and for some of us, long ones. How do you keep your kids occupied without them becoming restless? Here are some tips on how to handle those trips with your kids!

1. Electronics
Make sure to pack your child's portable game console, mp3 player, tablet, Portable DvD player or anything that you can think of that would keep your child occupied wheile on a long drive. If you're bringing a portable DVD player, make sure to have a large selection of DVDs your child can choose from or have them pick out a few of their favorites before going on your trip! 

Also, make sure your child has headphones so they can watch, play or do their thing without distracting whomever is driving! 

2. Play Games
I can think of a ton of fun car games that can be safely played while traveling, for example:

• Name that tune- Paassengers can sing, humming, or even whistle part of a tune while the other occupants of the car try to guess what it is.
• I Spy- One passenger chooses a letter of the alphabet and says, "I spy with my little eye something beginning with the letter...", and names the letter. The other players have to guess the chosen object. Their are also other variations of the game.
• One word story game- You will need a writing tool and some paper for this one. Or, you can use the "notepad" on your phone or tablet! The players go around saying one word to make up a story. After a few sentences have been constructed and the "story" is at the end, Players take turns reading the story aloud. 
• The License Plates- Like I Spy, their are different variations of this game.  You can can call out letters in alphabetical order and see if your child (or children) can find the letters on different license plates. You can also have your children look for license plates from different states. 

3. Art and writing supplies
Make sure to keep crayons, markers, paper and other supplies in the car so that your child can write and create masterpieces while you're headed to your destination. But before heading on the road, put together the items you are going to take in an art box or bag. Make sure that the suppies will be easily acessable to your kids while your paying attention to the road.

It's also a good idea to have a children's travel desk or lap top table for your kids so that they are able to color, draw and write. You can find these in most children's toy stores and online but I've also seen DIY travel desks made out of a pillows, pans and other materials!

4. Reading
Maybe your child has a book report or has been reading a book during his or her leisure time. This is the perfect time for your child to catch up on some reading and is an activity children of all ages can enjoy! Make sure your child gathers their favorite book or books in a book bag and you are set to go! Don't forget your bookmarks! Even E enjoys looking at the pictures in her board books while in her car seat. 

5. Music
Playing your child's favorite CD, listening to the radio, or good old fashioned sing alongs are always funy ways to pass the time!
