I'm a Walgreens shopper and have always filled my family's prescriptions there. If you haven't heard, Walgreens is no longer part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network as of Jan. 1, 2012. This is due to failed negotiations between Walgreens and Express Script. Unfortunately, this includes all Walgreens pharmacies nationwide and Duane Reade pharmacies for those of you who live in the New York City area.
This change only affects patients with certain prescription insurance plans managed by Express Script. To see if you are one of those who are affected, check with your local Walgreens pharmacist or look prescription insurance card, if it has Express Scripts’ name there, then you may be affected.
Walgreens is trying to ease the burden of prescription costs by offering a special promotion to join the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club in the month of January. Pay only $5 or $10 for a family membership (Regular annual membership is $20 for an individual and $35 for a family)! By joining Walgreens savings club you can receive savings on more than 8,000 brand name and all generic medications! You also receive discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and diabetic supplies.
