Baby K'tan {Review & #Giveaway} #BabyExtravaganza

Thank you Baby K'tan for providing me with a carrier for review!

I've talked about babywearing on the blog before and currently own or have owned a few different carriers which include soft structured carriers, slings, mei tais and soft stretchy wraps. When E was an infant, I loved using soft stretchy wraps! The first carrier I ever owned was a popular stretchy wrap but unfortunately, I had to stop using stretchy wraps because she outgrew them and when I would wear her, the wrap would sag.

A few months back I heard about the Baby K'tan Carrier, a soft cotton baby carrier that is a blend of a sling, wrap and carrier. The K'tan provides the positions and benefits of all three types of carriers and can be worn comfortably with infants and toddlers (from birth to 3 years) in multiple positions.

The Baby K'tan is available in sizes XS, Small, Medium, Large and XL and. You can view the size chart on the Baby K'tan website where you can find the sizing chart and sizing tips. The carrier is also available in several colors and styles which can also be found on the website.

The Baby K'tan consists of two pieces, The carrier and a sash which doubles as a storage tote when your Baby K'tan is not in use.

The Baby K'tan is super easy to get on. I'm more of a visual person so I found the visual instructions on the Baby K'tan website and the video tips very helpful.

I was nervous to use the Baby K'tan because I was afraid that my 28 pound toddler was going to stretch it out. When I found out that the carrier is able to withstand up to 35 pounds I was relieved. I spoke to Reina of Baby K'tan who suggested two positions, the hip position and the two-hip position which are great for those moments when your toddler wants to be held. These carries are meant more short term use, for example, if you're little one is upset and wants to be held but you need your hands free.

I really like the Two-Hip hold which is very simple! You start out with the Hug Position instructions and right before you would tie the sash, You shift your baby (or in my case toddler) to your side so that their legs are straddling your hip. Afterwards, you would continue with the Hug Hold Instructions and tie the sash. You can check out E and I below using the Two-Hip hold!

I had my neighbor try out the Baby K'tan with her 4 month old son. The only experience she has had with babywearing is with her stretchy wrap carrier so the Baby K'tan was very new to her. She loved the hug hold and was interested in trying the Explore hold which would need to be introduced when her child has full head and body control (about 5+ month old).

I've been using the Baby K'tan for a while now and have had no issues with the carrier stretching out. I love how the sash turns into a storage tote which can be conveniently tossed into my diaper bag when I'm on the go. Although I'm not trying to conceive, I can't wait to be able to use the Baby K'tan if and when we have a second child! Seeing my neighbor with her son in the K'tan made me reminisce (and miss) on how sweet it was to wear a baby that little.

I really wish the Baby K'tan came in one size but I understand why that would not work. As some of you may know, I'm in the process of loosing weight and I'm currently in a size 16 (women's dress size) which puts me at a size large in the Baby K'tan. My goal size is a 10 and that would put me at a size Medium. When and if the time comes, I would gladly purchase a new Baby K'tan in a medium!

The K'tan is such a great carrier and I would definitely recommend it to a new or experienced babywearer. If you are new to babywearing, you might find finding a carrier that suits you to be overwhelming. The Baby K'tan would make a perfect first carrier!

  1. Thank you for the giveaway! I loved my Baby K'tan, but the only one I have now is a pink one and a baby boy is getting ready to arrive, so I definitely need a new color. :)
