Water play is a great sensory activity for keeping kids cool during the hot sumer months. It's developmentally appropriate for all young children and can be done indoors or out. You can also use regular household items for this activity such as a dish tub, measuring cups and spoons.
Materials:
-Water table or dish tub

Directions:
1. If you are using a dish tub instead of a water table, place tub on a table or bench so it's at the childs level.
2. Fill table or tub with cold or cool water. (Optional: Add a few drops of dish soap and swish to create bubbles. You can also add a drop or two of food coloring to give the water a tinge of color!)
3. Add toys and have fun!
For those with infants that are not mobile:
With my 4 month old I used cool water instead of cold. I sat E on my lap with a tub in front of us and placed the water toys in her hand so that she could still feel the wetness on her skin. I also dipped her feet in so she could splash!
Tips for indoor water play:
-Make sure you put something on the ground such as a towel or wet mat for splashing water.
-Have indoor water play, have a mop handy ;)

Good idea with keeping a mop handy! Sounds like a fun activity. Thanks for following me from the Twitter Tuesday follow! I'm now following you back all 3 ways as well. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy three year old is obsessed with anything water. He will pull a chair up to the kitchen sink and play in it with some toys and dishsoap for hours. A special treat is when we lay down a bunch of towels all over the kitchen floor, fill some bowls with water and some with flour and let him "cook." It makes a fun paste that entertains him forever!
ReplyDeleteTyKes Mom- That sounds like so much fun!
